Later, he taught at California State University at LongBeach. In Oswego,Kumar has received Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997,the President Award for Creative and Scholarly Activity or Research in 2001, and over half a million dollars of grant money from the National Science Foundation, NASA or other agencies. He is a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany and NOVA / NASA fellowships.
